Yes! While TunnelBear does block some ports on our network for security purposes, all standard email ports are open.
To ensure a smooth experience using email while TunnelBear is connected, we recommend using the following ports:
- Incoming mail ports: 143, 110, 993
- Outgoing mail ports: 465, 587 (port 25 is blocked, most email providers will offer an alternative)
Since using a VPN causes your IP address to change, some email providers might flag logins from unfamiliar IP addresses for security reasons. A great way to prevent this from disrupting the use of your email is to enable 2FA (two-factor authentication). This gives your email provider an extra layer of authentication to prove that it's you accessing the service and not a malicious third-party.
