TunnelBear is committed to protecting our users’ privacy, which is why we have a strict no-logs policy. We don’t keep track of your online pawprints, so you can browse with peace of mind.
However, in April 2022, India announced a directive through the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) that requires VPN providers with physical servers in the country to log user data. The law mandates that VPN companies must collect and store customer information—including names, IP addresses, contact details, and the purpose for using the VPN—for at least five years. Non-compliance can lead to penalties, which is a grizzly situation for privacy-focused bears like us.
These requirements are simply un-bear-able for our privacy standards. Because of this, we can’t set up TunnelBear servers in India without compromising our no-logs policy. We want every member of our bear family to feel safe and secure in our den, and setting up servers in India would mean grizzly consequences for your privacy.
We know this might be a bit of a bear-rier for users in India, but please know our decision is rooted in our commitment to keeping your data safe and your browsing private.
